Ahmed is a Partner with our firm. He has immense experience in advising large local and international corporations and institutions in many areas of the Law including corporate finance law, international trade, land transactions, real estate, estates planning and trusts, entry country strategy, general contract law, and arbitration among others. He has previously advised the World Bank Group, Sukari Loma Group (South Africa), International Investment House (Abu Dhabi), Emirates Africa Link for Strategic Alliance (Abu Dhabi), Emfuleni Golf Course (South Africa), MMAPHO Group (South Africa), Salinni Construttori (Uganda), Petro Uganda Limited (Uganda), Jassim Transport and Stevedoring Company W.L.L (Kuwait), Primedia Pty Limited (Uganda), Crane Bank (Uganda), Equity Bank Uganda, National Social Security Fund (Uganda), Agribee (Cambodia), National Environment Management Authority (Uganda), East African University, Kitengela (Kenya), and Kampala University (Uganda), among others.
Ahmed has also litigated many high-profile cases including the recovery of over 30 billion Uganda Shillings in social security contributions against the Uganda Railways Corporation, recovery of 19 billion shillings from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, criminal trials of the former Health Ministers of the Government of Uganda accused of embezzling GAVI Funds and the former technocrats in the office of the Prime Minister accused of embezzling more than 30million USD. Ahmed successfully represented Equity Bank, Uganda in a novel case involving finance leases and the ruling political party in Uganda; the National Resistance Movement Party in cases challenging amendments to its Constitution. He has also over the years, handled a number of arbitrations with a value of over 20million USD.
In 2013, Ahmed successfully handled a novel adoption case in which, the High Court of Uganda considered whether it had jurisdiction in an adoption petition involving two foreign nationals. In the same year, he advised on the creation of an offshore trust in the Cayman Islands for a leading businessman in Uganda. In 2014, Ahmed successfully challenged a decision of the National Council for Higher Education of Uganda recalling a Kampala University Degree awarded to H.E Hassan Ali Joho, the former Governor of Mombasa, Kenya. In 2017, Ahmed was the lead advisor to China CAMCE Engineering Co.; Limited in its implementation of multi – billion electricity sub stations project in Uganda. In 2018, Ahmed advised on the set up of a Discount House in Uganda. In the same year, he advised on the set up of the Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools Foundation Trust.
In 2016 and 2021, Ahmed was part of the team that successfully represented His Excellency the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Presidential Election Petitions No. 1 of 2016 and No.1 of 2021 challenging his electoral victory.
Currently, Ahmed is the Lead Legal Advisor on the largest surrogacy project in Uganda.
Ahmed has a Master of Laws Degree from Makerere University, Kampala and formerly taught law at the Islamic University in Uganda and the International University of East Africa. Between March of 2014 and April, 2016 Ahmed served as the General Secretary of the country’s Bar Association, the Uganda Law Society. Ahmed is a member of the Boards of Directors of Lake Victoria Sailing Company Limited, Health Climate Uganda Limited, Quality Milk Diaries Limited, and WBHO – Uganda Limited. He is also a member of the East Africa Law Society, the Pan African Lawyers’ Union and the International Bar Association.
